For patients developing severe disease, early detection is important for effective treatments. However, current therapy is losing effectiveness because malaria pathogens are increasingly becoming tolerant/resistant to drugs and other vector control strategies are compromised by the rapidly emerging insecticide resistance among mosquito populations. Malaria control largely depends on case management with effective anti-malarials together with insecticide-treated/long-lasting bed nets (ITNs/LLINs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS). Malaria is a disease of global health concern that compromises the growth and stability of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in which it is endemic.
